Sea Monkey Tours
We like to make sure our guests have the best vacations possible, so we work with the top guides in Bastimentos to provide a curated selection of tours.
Polo’s Paradise $45 (lunch included)
Polo Beach is the most beautiful beach on Bastimentos and perhaps even in the Bocas del Toro Archipelago. You can enjoy this little piece of paradise by joining us on Polo's Paradise tour.
Number of inhabitants: 1, Mr. Polo.
At 11:00 we take off from The Sea Monkey Restaurant and walk through Old Bank into the jungle. Once we enter the jungle, the wonders of Bastimentos start. Tropical fruits left and right. With some luck, you can try some of these amazing fruits. As we continue, the trail takes you over farmland and valleys and offers stunning views of Bastimentos. We sit down on Gabriellito Hill and have a little fruit snack* while enjoying the view of the Caribbean Sea. Along the way, you can learn about the island’s flora, fauna, and medicinal plants and hopefully spot some wildlife! At around 14:00, we arrive at Polo Beach.
Polo Beach is inhabited by one person, Polo. Although the stories vary, Polo is said to have been living on the beach for about 56 years and lives of the land and sea.
Once we arrive, your guide will help Polo prepare a nice lunch for you. For about 3 hours, you have the freedom to snorkel** around the reef right in front of the beach, walk along one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, hang out with Polo, discover more of the jungle, or simply lie back and enjoy the day.
At approximately 16:30 we head to Red Frog Beach where Palmar Beach Lodge just so happens to have happy hour. Once everybody is ready, we take a boat back to Old Bank and arrive back to the Sea Monkey in time for a sunset cocktail.
Island Hopping to the Zapatillas $40
Grab some snacks, a bottle of water, and maybe a couple of beers and jump on our boat, because you're about to venture off into the first national marine park in Panama.
Cayos Zapatillas are two islands plucked straight from a postcard and dropped off of the coast of Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro. They are part of the Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park, which was established in 1988 as the first national marine park in Panama.
Join our local guides for a full day of adventure. Snorkel and relax on the beach at the Zapatillas, snorkel and have lunch at Coral Cay, spot sloths at Sloth Island, and finish the day with a cocktail at the famed Blue Coconut.*
At approximately 10:30 we depart from our tour office at the Sea Monkey restaurant and make our way over to Zapatilla one or two (we choose which one based on conditions and the number of visitors). There you can jump in the water and enjoy the reef, relax on the beach, and explore the interior of the island. Once the crowds start coming in, we take off.
We stop for lunch and snorkeling at Coral Cay, one of the most picturesque spots in the archipelago, then we head over to Sloth Island to see the famous Bocas three-toed sloths.
The best way to end a perfect day is with a cocktail at the famed Blue Coconut, a bar/restaurant located over the reef on Isla Solarte. It’s a great spot for one final snorkel session before we return by boat to our tour office.
* Blue Coconut is closed on Fridays, due to the Filthy Friday Party, so we will either stay on the beach longer or take you somewhere else.
(We adjust to our clients’ wishes and might deviate from the schedule a bit depending on conditions, but your guide will keep you apprised of any itinerary changes.)
Sunrise Fishing $160 for 2 people ($50 per additional person)
Head out just before sunrise on one of the most economical fishing trips in Bocas! Open-ocean fishing is expensive and only possible for part of the year, but we offer early-morning fishing tours of the best spots inside the protected bays and channels of Bastimentos year-round.
Snapper, jack, mackerel, and barracuda swim in the waters of Basti, and we can clean, prepare, and cook your catch for you for lunch or dinner.
